When a ship is away from Devonport for months at a time the partners and other family members back home do not have to fend for themselves if problems arise. The Naval Community Organisation brings together functions that contribute towards the wellbeing of the naval community. These include:
The Navy Childcare Centre provides places for pre-school children and is managed by an Incorporated Society.
RNZN Chaplains are ordained priests/ministers employed by the Navy to provide both spiritual guidance and pastoral care to all Naval personnel, military and civilian, and their families.
The RNZN Welfare Fund and Motel Fund provide amenities such as hire equipment and holiday accommodation for use by personnel.
The Naval Base Library is available to personnel. The library supplies books to ships of the fleet and subscribes to a number of professional journals.
